What To Carry With You On Your Truck

The following is a short list of recommended items for truck drivers. This list isn’t comprehensive so feel free to let us know if we forgot something.

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) – This includes gloves, hard hat, safety vest, steel toed boot, safety glasses, etc.
  • Dash cam. Protect yourself and your career.
  • Wet weather/winter weather gear, including ice cleats/spikes.
  • Flashlight and extra batteries.
  • Truckers GPS.
  • Up to date Motor Carriers atlas. GPS units are awesome and very useful, but they are electronic devices that can quit working. Drivers need an atlas as a backup.
  • Toolbox with tools. Some items to include: tire pressure gauge, tire tread depth gauge, mini sledge hammer, rubber mallet, claw hammer, knife, adjustable wrenches, vise grips, electrical tape, duct tape, wire cutters, pliers, zip ties, socket set, combination wrenches, screwdriver set, small electrical repair kit, WD-40, tire chain cam tool, tape measure, bungie cords and a tire thumper.
  • Toilet paper…..just in case.
  • Hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes.
  • Dash-mounted cell phone holder.
  • 5th Wheel Pin Puller.
  • Cleaning supplies. Window cleaner, paper towels, rags, hand broom, trash bags, & air freshener.
  • Office supplies. (pens, note pads, paper clips, clipboard)
  • Hard shell knee pads.
  • First aid kit.
  • Telescoping inspection mirror.
  • Emergency supplies like water and food.
  • Any chargers you need for your electronic devices and an extra phone charger.
  • Load assist blocks. This is a must have for flatbed drivers. They help stabilize and tighten uneven loads. They fill in gaps and secure freight that straps and chains would otherwise not secure. Load assist blocks are stackable to double or triple thickness, and due to the positive & negative dimpling top and bottom, resist any slippage once fully compressed.
